I've spend a day trying discover why directory component working fine
with one database and dont work with another..
I found that problem was in Root Category identifier option. If it equal to 0
component is working if I dont assign any value - component dont show anything... But another database work fine if this option dont filled....

I found this in help:
"Root Category identifier: If applicable, specify the value which is used to represent root or top level categories. Root categories CAN ALSO BE represented by a blank value. "

So what is exact rules what I should do with this option? When it can be represented by a blank value, and when not?

Thank you!

Blank means blank value like "".
The database shouldn't be important here, but the data that you have in the database. If your field value is blank "" then it should work, but if the field value is NULL (but not blank) then possibly this doesn't work.
This is what I suspect happens in your case, though I cannot be 100% sure.
