I want to put a field in the grid based on another table.
Such as instructor name for a course.
It is related to Course but the name comes out of instructor field.

I probably do this in every grid, so it's quite a common and natural thing to do. Use a query as the basis for your grid, as shown at http://docs.codecharge.com/studio/html/QuickStart/Creat...citRelship.html

Yes I can link the tables but if its built on multiple tables can I edit and add new rows.?
