Hello,

I've tried installing CCS under VirtualPC (v6 and v7) on Mac OS X,
inside virtual machines of Win2000 and WinXP. Both return an error
message like the following, and do not finish installing:

The following files did not self-register or unregister:

1. C:\Program Files\CodeChargeStudio\CCGenerator.dll
Invalid access to memory location.

2. C:\Program Files\CodeChargeStudio\CCproject.dll
Invalid access to memory location.

3. C:\Program Files\CodeChargeStudio\CCViews.dll
Invalid access to memory location.

4. C:\Program Files\CodeChargeStudio\IEScriptHelper.dll
Error : 0xc000001d

Module Installation

-------------------------------------------------------------------
CodeCharge Studio 2.3.2.24
Win 5.1 build 2600, Service Pack Service Pack 2

Could it be, that you was a little bit low on RAM?

May be 512 or 1024 MB will be better.

So, Sven, are you suggesting you have had it working?

Actually, I have been trying this and and also getting the same error, which is frustrating because CCS is the ONLY application my company has left that we need windows to run, and I thought this was going to solve this so I could can those boxes once and for all.

I will try upping the memory, but it is not recommended to run VPC with over 256M (in the virtual machines) because it actually hinders the Mac's performance due to the Windows caching strategies. Currently my VPC has 192 MB which should be more than enough for anything that CCS might need.

These errors occur in both Win98 VPC and Win XP VPC.

The full errors I get now are:

Note that I and others covered this 2 years ago in this post:

It appears the same problem existing with Virtual PC. I sure hope the new version of codecharge is going to consider this! (YES! Please make a comment!!).

I for one (being the decision maker around here).. will probably be taking Codecharge out of our development enviroments, and going to something cross-platform, if this next version cannot support MacOSx at the very least. BTW- I don't want that to sound like some sort of threat, it's just that from our development enviroment maintaining any relationship with Windows is unnecessary and expensive. The only thing we need/use other than codecharge (and emulation is fine) is Explorer to check platform compatibility.

Reluctantly, I will now try Bochs and report back.

As far as I know CCS doesn't work on Mac / Virtual PC and we were unable to make it work. Sorry.
Although I'm not sure where you see the high costs of Windows. I'm developing CCS applications at home on a $400 eMachines PC that included Windows. Mac was too expensive for me :-)

Found a "solution".

Enable Scripts on VPS, then Toggle Compatiblity Mode.

You can then install and operate CCS, albeit a little slower than it would under normal VPC.

Microsoft support has this as an open ticket. The difference in compatiblity mode is that VPC dynamically allocates memory addresses as required by the applications, vs normal just makes a "virtual" memory range.

It is Microsoft support's belief that this is probably something that can be corrected in code by CCS, and it would be great if this could be considered in future release.

Performance suggestions from MS also where: in xp, set performance settings to "Adjust for best performance", and also use allocate 1/2 your physical memory to VPC.

So for now, it runs, but things could be much much better.

BTW- I DO have a Windows machine that I can connect to (and do), but when I am the road for months at a time, I cannot carry two laptops just to run this one application.. that's where the real trouble is.

This is interesting. Thanks for the info.
I hope this configuration will be sufficiently usable.

Just a minor update. I had originally done this on VPC6.1.1, and I just installed a fresh install of VPC7.0 (FULL + XP). This installation is much faster than 6 was. Both need to run in compatibility mode, but the new 7+XP is quite usable, although I am going to purchase another 512 MB RAM so I can give 512 to VPC. I think that will push it into the "realistically usable" category.
