8-)

I have been testing Code Charge Studio and I am impressed!! I tested other products like ASP runner and ASP Maker. I have concluded that for a few dollars more I can drive a Cadilac instead of riding a bike. Plus I like this forum !!

Anyhow, I am going to get the personal edition. As I understand it I have to choose which language I want to program in ASP, CF and so on. I'm OK with that. I am most familiar with ASP.

Now my question. . .
Is there an advantage of ASP.NET over ASP that I am not aware of?

It depends. What is your background? Any programming experience? The
learning curve for ASP.Net is huge in my opinion. If you're a contractor
looking for work it is a very hot skill at the moment (but you would need at
least 2 years experience before anyone would talk to you). If you're going
to be developing web services on the Microsoft platform, then this is your
answer. Microsoft insists DotNet is easier and much more powerful. I for one
find it more difficult to use, but I am strongly influenced by my friends
who have dropped their Microsoft certified in favor of PHP and open source.
If you Google - asp vs asp.net, you'll get back about 1mm pages to review.
With that said, you can do a lot with ASP immediately just reading tutorials
on the net (or researching some sites like 4guysfromrolla.com). A couple
hours should give you a good idea what the developer community thinks.
Before you buy, test drive the full blown version of CCS for 20 days (or
whatever they offer now). Try developing some simple applications in both.
Make sure you write some custom event code and see which one is easier for
you.

I agree with Don.
ASP.NET is easier to use only in theory.
Its enormous libray of classes reminds me a huge warehouse - it takes time to find exact tools and learn how to use them for your job.
Also, most of webhosting companies will not allow you to upload compiled DLLs with code-behind.
Althogh I even took 2 ASP.NET college classes I use asp and php for 99% of my projects.

:-)

Thank You for this helpful information. I am going with the ASP for now. Perhaps look at the ASP.NET Later.

Just curious, why is ASP.NET such a hot skill if there is no clear advantage?
