I'm trying to get the text out of a text area on a dropdown box change event, with the following code

  
	var TestVar = document.composition.composition.value;  
	alert ("You typed: " + TestVar);

The Name of the form is "composition" and the name of the TextArea is also "composition". However, the alert box always comes up without any of the text enterered into the text area.

Any suggestions?

Try this instead:

var TestVar = documents.forms["composition"].composition.value;
