 Formatting Dates in Listbox

I'd like to have a listbox that allows one to select dates from a MySQL table. Anyone know how to properly format the "bound column" and the "text column"? The table column is a "date" type. I'd like the "text column" displayed for selection in the listbox to be formatted similar to: May 1, 2005

As the datasource of your listbox you can use something like:
SELECT record_id, DATE_FORMAT(some_date, '%m/%d/%Y') AS some_date FROM ...
