I developed a menu structure, which can generate menus dynamically from database based on the "VerticalCSSMenu" example from the ExamplePack 2. This worked marvelously, however has the restriction that an assortment of the menu items is not intended in the example. I therefore inserted a sorter, which does not only contain the parents category, but also the accurate position within the menu structure.

In order to make the assortment possible, I provided a editable grid, which represents the menu entries of each level of parent items. I modified the associated text box for the position in the "Before show" event such that an integral number indicates the exact position. "030204" becomes "4" in the appropriate line.
In the standard attitude the update routine writes this "4" into the database without a problem.
But I do not manage to get an update in the "Before Build Update" or "Before Execute Update" event working back to the format "030204 ". All code, which I insert there, is ignored.

Where is my mistake in reasoning?
