I need to add a form that will have add/edit buttons to an existing project which has been a view only upto now.
I would like user to be challenged with login if pressing add/edit buttons.

I’m not quite sure what you mean by add edit/insert buttons but I suppose that you need to create new record (or editable grid) forms on your pages.
As for login functionality you can configure it following the steps like that
Configure security settings under Project Settings -> Security;
Create Login form using Authentication Builder;
To restrict access to pages/forms configure their Restricted property (using corresponding dialog).
Hope it helps.

Akkers, you would probably do better to add an "Add" link that points to a restricted page wich contains your add/edit form, which then forces users to login rather than on a field by field basis.
Unless you get the whole site, then you can have elements displayed based on thier users login and group memberships.

Thanks. I have managed to setup a protected form with an add button and that works ok. However, if i type in an existing id and press submit, all the records get written same (whole db destroyed).
What I need is to add a new record (ok with this form) but also for the logged in user to be able to bring up an existing record and edit.

It's difficult to answer such question without analyzing and testing your project. If something doesn't work for you I recommend that you create a new, clean form that does what you need.
Our main task management tutorial explains how to create forms that only authenticated users can view and/or edit.
