I am about to purchase codecharge and want to know what you all think about
the Knowledge base - is it useful. I am a longtime commercial programmer
using Clarion and am moving into web based programming.

Don, I'm not sure I understood your question, but I recently (last year) moved from Clarion as well (15 years in Clarion).

Before CCS I tried Clarion IC, WebBuilder, ASP templates, wrote my own ASP templates, tried Macromedia, some other web RAD tools ...

CCS is simply the best.

Don,

Not sure what you mean about the Knowledgebase. If you mean the amount of
information on their on-line support, it is quite extensive, but not
all-encompassing.
I am also a Clarion developer. Windows apps are in Clarion, all web
development in CCS. You will find they have a very similar paradigm. YOu
do not have the level of control for finetuning that you have in Clarion
(where you can embed code at different positions). However, there is
nothing I have been unable to do in CodeCharge yet. Sometimes, I end up
modifying generated code - which is not the nest solution - but to achieve
the end result it works.

That being said, you will find that the support for those who have
maintenance is very good. When the answers are not in the Forum, you can
get them directly from support. Once in a while, I do not get the answer I
need (maybe because I dod not explain it well enough? <vbg>), but in those
cases after some clarificatio I have always received satisfactory replies.
I suggest paying the support - as a developer making a living off of a tool,
it is nonsensical not to do so.

I think you will find the switch to CodeCharge fairly simple coming from
Clarion. Adn, as in the Clarion world, if you run into something just ask
:)

This is going to be a Clarion to CCS Thread, I think.
Also been using Clarion since version2, left it after version5.
Happy with CCS, not building Win applications at the moment though.
Besides the various codehooks in Clarion, the thing we liked most was the
ability to use different templates.

Development of Browser (intra- or internet) applications mainly PhP MySQL,
for me CCS the way to go.
And trust me, in software development since 1986, I am probably the most
lazy succesfull application builder around.
Have seen, tried, used and discarded almost all CodeGenerating Tools now
know as RAD tools around.

On the Knowledgebase question, do you mean "Is the Knowledgebase application
Yes is offering any good?"
It is/was offered to CCSdevelopers with certain licences, don't know waht
the distribution startegy is at the moment, have to check.
It is an extensive application which can be used out-of-the-box or build
upon.

Absolutely CCS is the best tool I ever used. Although I never used Clarion, I am many years experienced Perl developer.

The only think I hate CCS is that it makes me lazy. But I spend my spare time to write custom actions to CCS which makes me lazier further.

I usually build the rough skeleton of the application 2 minutes per form/page, than go for fine tuning.

Yes Software provides good support. They can solve most tricky perl solutions, such as problems related to apache child fork under mod_perl.

By the way Knowledgebase application is useful enough. But you can build a custom one in a week including learning Code Charge Studio. After you becoome experienced in CCS you can do a state of the art one in a week.

Ozum

You're not alone. Though I still use Clarion 6.2 for Windows apps (and will
continue to, for now), I don't plan on touching WebBuilder even again.

I'm working through the CodeCharge tutorials right now.
