Yesterday I spent a few hours at a Visual Studio 2005 launch event.
It was pretty funnny that while all the VS developers were going bezerk over
all these new features, I was able to do all of the new features for the
past 2 years with CodeCharge (sorters, paging, visual creation of a
connection string).
So, here's to Yes Software and CodeCharge Studio.

So what is your analysis on how far CCS 3 in comparison with VS 2005?

Taking into account that VS is only .Net, there is a definite advantage to
CCS to begin with - specially if you code in PHP :)
But even for the creation of .Net apps, I did not see any compelling reason
to use VS as opposed to CCS.
I have not started to do heavy testing with the production release just yet
(all of my main projects are in CCS 2.3), but the features that had everyone
rolling their eyes in amazement have been in CodeCharge for quite a while
(ever since I started using it heavily).
Everyone was going crazy about the ease of adding sorters and page
navigation, talking how it used to take them days to implement such
functionality. They now have a wizzard to create the connection string (how
about that!), and site masters (essentially a template for populating the
items in the website which are constant from page to page). We do it
differently through the inclusion of headers and footers, but same
functionality.
Their IDE is nice. Going from the design mode to the HTML view takes you to
the HTML location of hte object which you were in design mode, which was
nice. Also, when you are within a block element (suck as a TD, TR, etc.,
when in HTML mode the IDE highligts the opening and closing tokens. Again,
that was nice. But from a functional perspective there was just nothing
there which amazed me.
I think I can still be much more productive with CCS than with VS 2005 on
the web arena, and definitely more productive with Clarion over VS in the
Windows app arena.
Don't get me wrong - it is not a bad product. Just did not have anything
which really amazed me or would compel me to switch.
Source control is unavailable unless you go to the very expensive Team
edition, and from what I saw in the demo it was awfully slow. Granted, I
have not yet tried CCS's integration to source control (that wil be in Q1
for me), but nothing there to amaze me.
