I'm currently evaluating CCS and having trouble changing the style on my project.

I can get the style I want when using the application builder but if I later want to change the style I cannot figure out how to do it!

I found an option called "Change Theme" on the Project menu but I think that is not supposed to be used as Themes are deprecated.

I look through the online docs and found the following,

"Global Style Selection
A style can be assigned globally to an existing project by selecting Project -> Change Style... from the menu bar. "

But when I look at the Project menu there is no "Change Style" option!!!

Am I missing something? Or is the trial missing this function?

Right-click anywhere on a page or form and select "Change Style...".

OK, but what about the ability to set style for the entire project as it says in the docs?

Or, as you suggest, would I have to go to every page in a project and change their style one at a time?!?

Open your project.
Close all open pages in Design
Click Project Settings
Click Styles
In the Styles Box it will show your current selected style.
Right hand side are Buttons,
Add will five you opportunity to add another style.
Click the newly added style
Press Button Replace and follow instruction.
Press Set Default, in order to have newly generated pages use the new style.
Delete (optional) the previously used style.
Publish your project.

OR
Press Help to read more on using Dynamic Styles.
and so on.

Walter

thanks Walter, but it didn't work. :(

I went through your steps exactly on several of my test projects and the style never changed.

then I went through several of the CCS-provided examples and the style never changed.

finally I created a blank project with no database and used Calendar Builder to add a calendar again with no database to keep it simple. my selected style was applied but when I went through your steps the style was unchanged.

and, for the record, I did read about styles in the help before I posted the first message in this thread. In fact, I found a claim in the help file that there is a Project|Change Style menu option but that option does not appear in the menu on the trial I am using.

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated as changing styles one page at a time would not really be acceptable to us.

Yes, look in Project Settings -> Styles. While the best option is to use the "Dynamic" styles, which will allow your application or your customers to select a style at run-time.

The examples don't utilize any styles, therefore this may not work. But I just tested it with new pages added to examples and new projects, and this works every time:
1. Go to: Project Settings -> Styles
2. Select the style you want to replace.
3. Click "Replace..." and select the new style you want to use. You will then see dialog "Are you sure you want to apply the new style to all pages within the project?". Click [Yes] and that's it.

Your version must be very different from mine, mine works the way I described, how else would I be able to describe it.

CCS 3.0.4.12
Just to be sure just did it again and it does work even without publish, changes are shown in each page directly.

I am using CCS 3.0.4.12 as well but mine is the trial; don't know if this makes any difference.

I have gone through it many times and begun to see a pattern.

Basically, if I leave out your step to add a style and instead just replace the single style already present in the project, it worked 9 times out of ten (the other time it actually stripped the style; probably a fluke).

But, when I add a style to the project and then try and replace the current style with that one it never works.

And, I've reduced this down to a very simple set of steps as follows,

- close any open project
- start new blank project
- with NewPage1 opened click Calendar Builder
- select the "no database" option
- accept default calendar settings
- select a style and click Finish
- SaveAll and close NewPage1
- select Project|Settings and click Styles

at this point if I click Replace and then OK and then Yes and then dismiss the Project Settings dialog box, it works

but, if I click Add to add a style to the project and then (or later) try to Replace with that added style it does not work

very easy to reproduce this problem (at least with the trial). seems like something flakey in the Project Settings panel.

but, as long as I can change style globally I think I'm happy. don't care too much about adding additional styles to the same project anyway.

Confirmed.
Please report to support.

Calendar will not respond to the replace, only to rightclick in page, change
style.
Ended up with blank style with placeholder button images 'red x'
Page rightclick change style, however works always.

Actually, I'm now convinced it is working properly (if you understand how it works)! Maybe a documentation improvement opportunity.

Whatever styles have been applied to your pages, you can change those styles in Project|Settings|Styles by selecting the style and clicking Replace. (As Walter correctly pointed out you need to have all the pages closed because sometimes opened pages are not updated properly.)

The Add button is for adding styles to use dynamically or for adding a style to designate as default. Adding a style and then clicking Replace has no effect because the new style is not yet applied anywhere.

To summarize, it seems to me you cannot apply a style in the Project|Settings|Styles panel. You can exchange styles that are already in effect with a different style. Or, you can add styles for dynamic use or for default use.

But to apply styles you must use each page's Change Style command or set up a default style so each page gets a style when it is created.

Hold the phone!

Rebuild works ok.
But the action is a bit different than one might think at first.

If your project has style1 as default, but contains (f.i. copied) pages with a different style, than pressing rebuild will set the 'not style1 pages' to style1.

Walter

Actually I have the same problem and neither of the methods described above works for me. No matter what I do I cannot change a global style, it only works if I apply it to individual pages.
There must be some quirk in CCS, I think. There is no problem selecting styles while new application is created though. I was able to update global styles twice, then 10 times it failed.
I cn't figutre out the pattern yet. If the project has like 100 pages it would be just a nightmare to update styles page after page....
Also sometimes when I try to update global style, I loose this style completely. That is: I can see it in the task manager panel but the pages have no styles at all.

another anomalies I discovered is: when I click REFRESH LIST button it brings back previously ereased style, perhaps this has something to do with global update,.....
While playing with styles my APP finally lost it completely, so all pages in CCS look plain. Then when I generated the app and opened it in browser I got it open with the old style which actually has been deleted. This is very wired!
