 data type mismatch -- asp, access, date search fails

Access database. Date field. Simple search in ASP, right?

Well, CC22 won't put in the percent (%) sign around the date in the where clause so i get the following error:

Data type mismatch in criteria expression. (Microsoft JET Database Engine)

Anyone know why CCS2 won't put in the correct syntax?

Found it in another post:

In the connection window, below connection name, change database type to MS ACCESS. In the same window, click on server tab, set the database also to MS ACCESS, then choose the date-format below.
