Why does an empty TD screw up the cell borders?

At least in ASP, when you have a grid with a TD and an imagelink and you make the imagelink invisible, the entire TD (borders) go away as well. This also happens in any other kind of empty 'cell', ie. nothing in between the <td> and the </td>.

Looks uglier than a monkey's butt.

Happens in Firefox and IE.

Am I to conclude that if there isn't at least an nbsp inside a TD the rules for the border display changes?

Is there a way around that?

TIA,

---JC

put a
 & n b s p ;
(remove the spaces) (non breaking space) in when hiding the image.
or create a blank pixel to display as a placeholder.

non breaking space, what's in a name!

Walter

Got it.

I just realized something about our personalities, Walter. You're more of a 'this is the way it is' kind of a guy. Clearly you don't get bothered by these little nigglies--you just deal with them and move on.

And I'm more of what my grandfather would have called a 'religious' guy. I always get pissed off when things aren't how I think they -should- be. :-D

And in this case, the idea that an empty cell should make the border change is blasphemy I tell ye! :-D

Of course, I don't blame CCS. It's obviously something to do with how the browser interprets HTML. It just means more work for me. And I hate work. ;-)

As always, thanks for writing.

Taken as a compliment.
If you knew me real live, you'd know I take things as they come and work around them, indeed.

BTW, as I understand you post, you let CCS design you a page with an image on it.
Then when the generator has done it's work figuring out all your desires, you take away the picture.
I had a wife like that 8-)

greetz,

Walter
