Why after I changed a connection name and type in the project settings it is not prpoagated to the pages (or am I missing something?) ? Do I really have to manually got through every page and manualy update connection name in page properties ?

The connection name is not propagated for logical reasons. Thus I wouldn't recommend changing connection name, although you can change its properties.
