Is DemoCharge a dead product ?

- I found only a couple of posts about it
- it even does not have a forum
- the name DemoCharge 2005 is not very promising

I am curious is it a good purchase, or should I rather go with RoboDemo ?

Please help + advise !

I would contact support ( http://support.yessoftware.com ) and see what they have to say about it.

I did. And they answered. They say no problem !

I will try it out this weekend in detail !

BUT ANYWAY --
a newsgroup for such a mature product (they say so) would definitely be needed.
At least NOT to keep the potential customers away.
I am sure that also satisfied customers would post to it !

It is good for a potential customer to find out that something is happening or that people are using the product.
Total absence of posts is usualy NOT a sign that there are no problems, but that there are NO USERS !

Well, I am going back to work now ...

I am also planning on using it (DemoCharge) for a CCS tutorial site which I plan on announcing in the near future.

The problem with analysing Democharge($199) is a matter of price ecomparison. When you stack it against Adobe Captivate ($599) and Techsmith's Camtasia ($299) you get a pretty good value.

If you want greater functionality from Democharge such as highlighted click points etc you will need to export to flash, etc.

The main issue with democharge is that the engine will need to rewritten to achieve the really high quality tricks that are available in Captivate and Camtasia. Having said that I personally don't know it is worth the expense to move from Democharge.

I have purchased Democharge Pro but never used it (see this post: http://forums.codecharge.com/posts.php?post_id=58658)

I never felt sorry for this purchase though...

As Edd said, buy it if you don't need greater functionality
or/and
if you want to support the development of CCS !

I am missing this functionality too.
But at this moment I need really something simple and cost effective.

I do not have a need to support CCS. CCS purchases should support it !

With my (potential) purchase I would like to support DemoCharge, which
certainly needs more functionality.

.. talking about price and performance ...

DemoCharge is nice and easy to work with. It has nice features too.

The main problem is, that for the basic price $99.95 (or 49.95) you do not get flash or exe output, which are definitely needed for a presentation. If you purchase the full product it costs too much for what you get.

It also seems that there is no development, there is not even a newsgroup for DemoCharge. This in my opinion shows that the product is definititely out of focus of the developer.

On the other hand you have WINK, which is freeware, but does not have so many features, but produces flash and exe.

I do no need special features, but I need flash or exe. I decided to use Wink for this project, but I will check what happens to DemoCharge in the future.

I thank everbody in the forum (and private mails)
for sharing the experiences with me !!! :-)

Well, as there's no specific forum, that's not really surprising if there are only a couple of posts :-) The better thing is to ask YS to create a DemoCharge forum :-) But anyway, for French speaking people there's a forum for DemoCharge here: http://www.kapitec.com/Forum/index.php?c=4

Correct! We're in 2007 and it's DemoCharge 2005... then it's normal you're wondering about the future. But if YS say it's not a dead product... It isn't :-) Need to ask them about the "2007" version... and I believe the best thing to do is to post a list of new features... that all the DemoCharge users would like...

I love demo charge :-D. And I would also guess there is only a couple of posts because it's easy to use! I've used the software for a year, but never felt the need to visit the forum.

I currently use it in my Technical Writing assignments, and along with WHD Help writer, I can produce stunning technical documentation for developers and customers without effecting the quality of output.

I'm not sure if YesSoftware will produce a DC2007. And in my opinion, the problem here is when you expand the features beyond what it can already do, then you increase production costs, and take the product into a different competitive market place, which would mean the price would have to rise significantly to enable the product to have the features that would make it competitive with Abode and others.

What it does, it does well.
