I am doing some work for a client who is using Codecharge 2.3.2.29 with PHP4. I would like to purchase the latest (3.1) version, but am worried that there will be incompatibilities between this and the client's existing code. Has anyone got any ideas on this?

Exactly what differences are you concerned about? I have upgraded enough of my own web applications to feel confident that the migration should not be a big deal. Especially if you are upgrading to the same version of PHP and your database is still the same. If anything you gain more features and possibilities by upgrading. Just my two cents..........

Thanks for your thoughts.
The client has a number of PCs (which I can't use) which have the old version. If I use the latest version, will future developers using the old version have trouble opening and using my code? My new code may force them to upgrade (a cost that I suspect the client won't wish to incur).
The php version (4) and db won't change.

Yes, if you upgrade and make changes then in order for them to make changes to your code they will have to upgrade.
Here are two suggestions: Suggestion 1 is that you use your old copy of CCS (if you have one) or they give you a license to use the old version (which I would recommend). Suggestion 2 you convince them why they should upgrade to the newest version of CCS (You may need to give them a presentation with a list of pros and cons).

Thanks very much for your reply. Its exactly what I need to know. At this point I will need to use the old version. At least I know now.

As every version states:
make backups of your previous version projects;
projects will be converted;
connot be opened in previous version.
So MamboBrown's advice is valid and strong as to upgrade.
