How do I create a function to log out??

Is it possible to logout automatically after a period of inactivity??

Just use CCS to create a logout page and point to that page, redirect from that logout page to home page.

You need to reset length of sessionID.

Just Google it "php reset sessionid length" or something like it.

you can achieve this using

session_destroy if you are in php

you can do this automatically only if you have either an autorefresh in your page and your server timeout is set to destroy session after a while...
