hello

1 - just wondering how flexible is this program? if i generate code then later change it, will everything break and fall apart?
2 - can codecharge be used to create web services API?
3 - how is it compared to codesmith?

Hi,

> 1 - just wondering how flexible is this program? if i generate code then later change it, will everything break and fall apart?

I answered similar question from you before. You can create very complex applications as long as you put your custom code into events. Modifying the generated code is not needed, similarly as you don't need to modify the .NET framework, RAD frameworks, portal frameworks, 3rd part components, etc. Some applications created with CCS are probably more complex than you can imagine, without modifying the generated code (except for events). However, this is assuming that you continue using CCS for maintaining your application.
My previous answer contains more information covering this topic, including using Visual Studio.

No.

> 3 - how is it compared to codesmith?

AFAIK these are completely different, not comparable products.

Correct. You can even have a separate Web designer working on the graphics and he or she doesn't need to see or touch any of the code.

BTW, I recommend trying the free evaluation version, at the same time comparing to other products, etc.

Thanks for your help peter, I just installed ...just wondering how I could create a MS SQL database? it doesn't seem to like me, (5minutes of testing it out) obviously i can do this directly from CCS correct?

CDK277,

CCS is an AMAZING tool. One every web developer should have in their toolkit. I've tried other code generators and this one wins hands-down for features, support and especially cost. The only other tool I feel is as good or maybe better works for ASP.NET only and is literally 10 times the price!!!

Now, with that said, I routinely run into things I cannot do or cannot figure out how to do in CCS. I find I spend lots of time building an application, throwing it away and then building it again. Sometimes I do this 5 or 6 times until I get everything right. But, even so, I save lots of time with this tool. And I assume I am still coming up the learning curve.

So, if you have lots of database-related coding to do, CCS will save you lots of time. In fact, even if you later decide to build your app yourself without CCS, I cannot imagine a better prototyping tool. And you will probably find the CCS app is good enough for most production purposes.

Buy the tool, pick the project you'll learn on and come here daily for help. There are quite a few good folks here who will answer your questions and help point you in the right direction. Good luck!

well, if I understand your question, that is not what CCS is for.

you create your database and THEN you use CCS to generate all of the code necessary to maintain that database as well as to implement all of the web pages that make up your application

CDK277,
Yes, you'd use the standard database tools for creating the database. The free MS SQL Server includes "SQL Server Management Studio Express".
