I'm still looking for an answer to this question. It seems to me that in order to print mailing labels for a client that I will need to use a pdf output format to guarantee that everything will line up correctly. Is there a standard add on product (open-source preference, of course) that will allow me more printing control for pdf's that even CSS's pdf tool will allow so that I can place the text exactly where it needs to go and work across printers?
Thanks
Steve

Steve-
I didn't see you original post to know exactly what you want but any time I am now trying to get good print out of my web application I have been pretty happy using Microsoft's ReportViewer control in 'Local Processing Mode'. http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms251671(VS.80).aspx
It allows me to pull data from the database and format it exactly as I please. We have been building online forms that print every bit as well and with as much control as Access reports.
The documentation is pretty good and the report can accept a url querystring parameter so you can pass info to filter if required. Sorting, grouping margins etc are all there. It will export to PDF for printing although there is no direct 'print button' in the 2005 version in Local Mode, they promise that feature in the Feb 2008 release.
If you have Visual Studio, you are all set to start using. If not, you can get the Visual Web Developer and Reporting add-in at: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/express/aa975050.aspx
I like to build a page in VS2005 for reporting, test it thoroughly and then copy paste code to my CodeCharge Project Page. Just a workflow that works for me. SQL Reporting Services is NOT Required to run the ReportViewer control in 'Local Processing Mode'.

we have used MeadCo's ScriptX to control margins, headers and the like IF our end-users are only using IE. might be useful to you. I posted about it here,
