Many times one need to test new versions of CCS (O:)).
Sometimes one would like to have the development available at various locations.
I myself carry around a desktop replacement laptop 5-7kg, with all important stuff installed.
I have 3 to 4 locations at which I do my work.

Testing newer versions of the CCS software, up to now, I did by using a VirtualBox or VmWare virtual PC. Keeping a bare installation image ready, installing a newer version of CCS was done by moudting the bare image and installing the required software.
Although a perfectly workable solution it is also time consuming and requires the Host PC to be of reasonable Performance specs.

Recently I came across MojoPac (www.MojoPac.com).
They offer a solution that is best described as desktop on a stick/card/disk.
Details available at their website.

For the past weeks I have been moving between the four office locations carrying just a 4GB USB2 2.5"Harddisk. My Life Is Improved!
The disk could easily be replaced by an iPod as described at MojoPac. Anything USB2 storage goes, even my Nokia phone.
I can report here that the below described configuration is working awesome!.
No licensing conflicts, no backpains, instant performance.

Read and enjoy!

As posted by me at MojoPac forum:
Quote :
- Gembird USB-IDE/SATA adapter euro 17,50
Has 3-connector adapter to USB 2.0, separate mains adapter.
- Hitachi DK227A 4GB 2.5" HDD, FAT32 after install converted NTFS
Does not need above Mains-adapter, old disk from obsolete Notebook.
- Leather cover salvaged from a MultiMeter, has hole in one corner to let usb cable out, lol.
MojoPack 1.8.

-CodeChargeStudio 3.2.0.4, RAD-tool.
-apachefriends XAMPP (apache, MySQL, PhP)
-MySQL ODBC
-Navicat Enterprise
-MsAccess
-Various tools PhPEd, WinCMD, WinScp
All working, development and testing.
XAMPP will provide localhost http server, local MySQL databases and PhP parser. As stated somewhere, it will all function as long as the host is not running XAMPP simultanious. In fact if the host does it seems that apache serves from MojoPac but MySQL on MojoPac will be overridden by Host MySQL server, as in my case I see more databases than installed on MojoPac.

Plus all the usual stuff, FF, IE7, Acrobat etc.

Plugged in at various locations, various machines.
Saves me carrying around hefty LapTop 7kg.
This fits in my jacket inside pocket!
For fun also tried on Nokia E61 with 2GB MicroSD, using the Nokia Connection Cable, works a blast only disadvantage is that Nokia switches the phone off when used as connected device.

Hosts:
P4HT 2.8Ghz, 2GB, 250Gb, XPMCE
PH4T 3.2Ghz, 2 GB 160GB XP
Celeron 3+ 1GB XP

Amazed by:
Indifference of speed, crispy response, ease of use.
!! Free space on disk as OS is not carried around.
Used to use VmWare VirtualBox, and carry project files.
Synchronizing all the machines was a hassle, performance was lower.
Only avantage thre was the access to the host system through networking, shared storage and/or shared clipboard.
The MP1.8 does no longer support the substituted disk as in 1.06.
But overall, using file transfer from Host to USB Disk, works just as well.

This is a keeper, when the Vista version pops up, will convert to next higher version, using Free now.

Compliments!

Walter

Did I forget to mention that on the portable storage device carries only the desktop and the installed applications?
There is no Windows OS on the device, the Host Computer's OS is used.

Viewed from the MojoPac environment the Host computer's storage devices are not visible.
Unplugging the device leaves no traces on the Host.
Viewed from the Host computer, switching is easy, the device is a plain USB storage disk.
Files can be easily transferred to the device.
So if you need to install anything either acces the hosts CD stations or place the install on the USB disk.

Sounds interesting.

For personal projects I use VM in data center with CCS installed.
Connection is always fast, deployment on sand-box or production is even faster. :)

Playing is recommended, before relying on this solution.
Meanwhile I have found: (with that version of MojoPac)
- International versions of XP are not all that stable.
- expect a XP machine at the target location, as Vista was problematic.

Keep doing backup schema, meaning keep backups of your ccs projects on a
different media as you normaly would do (!)
I have had exactly 1 problem with a CCS project not storing latest changes,
probably due to unhooking the MojoPac from one pc when the DiskBuffer had
not completed flushing it's data to disk.

The best parts of this solution. still are
portability
no license infringments
fast start when changing locations.

Glad you liked the post.

:( It does not work with my seagate 120 GB (Free to go). I use Norwegian XP SP2.
"Initializing CodeCharge Studio Objekt Model" Hangs forever and finaly i get the message that i have to close the aplication.

I have tried turning of Virus controle and firewalls - still no luck. Other programs are working (not all though).

I get nicely through the installation - but CCS will not initialize. This goes for version 3 and 4!

Any tips?

You installed MojoPac on the Seagate wile it was connected to Computer A.
Does CCS give jou the eternal load while seagate connected to this cmputer A?
Or when connected to Computer B?

There is a mention of XP US supported, other languages might give problems.
I intermix US and NL versions, but still need to test CCS4 and 3.2.0.4(latest)

Will do so in a few days

Walter

It has the same behaviour on every computer (A and B and C )i have connected to ( so it is consistant).
So the answer is yes to both. I have reformated the seagate and reinstaled both MojoPac and CCS - several times.
But i get the eternal load every time.
Maybee it has something to do with different paths in english and other XP' languages.

Definitly a possibility, as described by MojoPac, supporting US English versions.
XP uses localized path names for for instance 'Documents and Settings'.
One of the good things of Vista, that always uses the same paths, while localization only takes place in explorer.

Sorry for your bad experience, it still works for me.
