Sending emails using PHP mail.

Sending to same server very quick!

Send to another server very slow.

Host say it's the script?

Anyone any ideas?

Cheers...

"Send to another server" meaning send SMTP via another server? Yes,
this will definitely be slower to send, since you're essentially
relaying the email messages and authentification and filtering must be
done by the sending mail server.

I'm sure there's a better technical way of describing that, but
basically it's the difference between sending your mail directly from
the post office versus putting it in your mailbox, flipping up the flag
and waiting for the mailman to pick it up. :)

Sorry - I wasn't clear..

I'm send via the SMTP server on my host.

Any emails I send myself are very quick cos I'm on the same server.

Any emails I send to other people are very slow.

Thanks again

Too many variables involved to know what the slow-down is, but it's
likely a server config issue (DNS/localhosts, sendmail config, SMTP
relay, spam/virus filters, webalizer, beige colored server instead of
black, etc.etc.).

Since this is a CCS/PHP forum, post your script and let's eliminate that
as a problem if possible.

It's no problem.

The script is generated by CCS in the send email event so you probably know what the looks like.

I just wondered if anyone had this kind issue before, that's all.

Thanks again.

The CCS send email event creates a script. Part of what that script is
doing is creating ini_set("SMTP"). This can be a buggar if not set
correctly, resulting in delays in sending the message (or not at all in
some cases). In addition, your 'from' address matters, which if
incorrectly set will result in delays in sending the message (or not at
all in some cases).

The CCS created event COULD be the problem, based on the parameters
you've given it (or omitted).

Yes, the problem will be a common one for folks that use
undedicated/uncustomizable web/mail hosts.

Sorted!

It was the host as I thought.

Cheers
