Publishing Problem and Relocating Common Files

Although I've been using CCS since the earliest version (and I used
CodeCharge before that), I am having a problem all of a sudden on a new site
in getting it to publish any pages. It publishes the common files but not
the index.php page, which is the only page there right now. I tried deleting
and recreating the page but it simply does not publish! This is the first
I've created a new site in a long, long time so maybe I've missed something.
Any ideas?

Also, I've never liked the mess that CCS makes of the root folder by putting
all the common files there. Is there no way at all to relocate them? When I
try, CCS always puts them back to the root. Some clients have complained
about the root mess too and it was reported several times but a fix was
never made to allow a setting to move them elsewhere. YesSoftware seemed to
think it was a non-issue.

Thanks.

Interestingly, it seems to have the problem only when the file is called
index. If I create a file by any other name, it generates just fine but I
require index as the name. I tried creating and generating as a different
name, then renaming it in CCS and regenerating but it still does not
generate!

I found the first problem. Apparently an existing page cannot be used as a
template even though CCS did not say so when it was selected. Without the
index page selected as a template, it generated just fine. It sounds like a
bug that can allow something like that to be selected when it won't work
that way.

Any ideas on relocating the Common files in order to improve housekeeping?
It's a mess with them all in the root.

I concur with Don!

A client of me has an application which had also a language file in the same manner as CCS is using. Besides that I find also that no files should be placed in the root (except the caller, like the index).

I think many users would be very pleased if there is some solution provided for this issue.
