I am using MySQL as my database and anytime I try to connect to the database or modify one of the database settings it is crapshoot on whether CCS will hang.

I experienced this with SQL Server 2000 (and MySQL) as well with CCS 3.1 Lite

that is why I upgraded to 3.2 Pro or enterprise

my desktop is a dual xeon with 3 gb of memory running windows server 2003 - if this helps

any ideas would be greatly appreciated

I find I have that issue when the data set I'm querying against is large or the SQL is complicated. Other than that, it runs about the same as any other Windows-based program :*)

trust me, I have never had any windows program hang this much - my dataset is small and SQL relatively simple - it still has problems

if I had the CCS source code I would fix it myself and a few other nits - I would take time off to fix these things just so I would not be so frustrated

to be fair, I have almost asked for a refund - it is that frustrating - the only thing holding me back is - I like the concept and like the tool, just wished it worked better

Does it 'hang' when you set up your ODBC Datasource or test the
connection from your ODBC Datasource settings?

it hangs from either one or if I try to change a property in CCS on one of the web pages

for example -
changing from visible Yes to no - hangs
changing a column name from orginal "A" to one in picklist - hangs
if I need to change table name from "A" to another one - hangs

i have experienced using My SQL and MS SQL SERVER 2000/2005

If it's hanging in your Windows ODBC Datasources, then it's not a CCS
issue, but rather something else.

Just to toss something obvious out there.... check your firewall settings.

the firewall is and has been disabled

are you saying that the property changes visible yes to no is also database related???

Note: I have experienced this on another machine using an eval copy of CCS

Sounds like you've got quite a pickle that'll require a call to Yes
Software support or submit through the online ticket system.

I have the same type of thing happen - when I click on "Data Source" in the Properties panel (which obviously I have to do a lot); well, about 66% of the time CCS (3.2) hangs and I must force quit the application.

I am using mySQL/.asp (mySQL DB is on my computer); computer XP2 SP2; 3 GB RAM

I say a little prayer right before I click, LOL...frustrating, because it takes me twice as long to do stuff.

To both:
- is database running on same machine (local) or on other machine(remote)?
- check the acces through odbc using a different front end, i.e. Not CCS.
my setup XP SP2 all hotfixes, XAMPP local environment No such problems.

The ODBC interface works fine with other products either local or remote

I am currently using MyODBC 3.51.16 driver

all of the latest patches and updates have been applied to W2K3

remember this has also failed with SQL Server for me

you didnt say what environment worked for you - local? or remote? or both?

May not be related, but try turning off AutoComplete (Tools -> Options
-> General).

Using ODBC only local.
Published application will directly connect to MySQL.
In other words I never use ODBC on a remote database.
If you are using local too, I imagine Server 2003 as a development platform
might require some different settings as to user policy or so.
I would suggest to contact support.

my user id on this server is administrator - so it has every ability enabled

I have contacted support, but am awaiting a patch for debugging purposes or a version file from them that my agent created so that I can compare machines software levels

Just performed a test to try to solve problems I've been having.

I created a grid with two connections:
#1 using ODBC Data Source (DSN)
#2 using just connection string (DSN-less)

I switched between the two numerous times and clicked on the Data Source for the grid in the property panel. Never did it hang using DSN-less. However, it hung up 50% of the time while using DSN (requiring me to force quit the app).

It's only one test, but I for one am going to DSN-less for now!

Sounds like you might have ODBC tracing turned on. I've had it turned on
and forgotten to turn it off, and the log file grows to be huge and
eventually grinds things to a halt.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/274551

That would explain why the connection speeds up with DSN-less, because you
aren't using the DSN that has tracing enabled on it.
