I am using Codecharge Studio 3.2.0.4.

I confess to being a novice.

I have two databases already set up. Both are mysql databases sitting on remote Linux servers. I am working on a PC under XP SP2.

I have created connections for both databases and they both seem to connect correctly.

I now want to use the "Grid and Record Builder" wizard.

With one database connection, I get to Step 2 (of 9) and the single table in the database is identified and the fields appear correctly in the lefthand box. I can then select the fields and codecharge goes ahead and constructs the grid and search box etc.

With the second database, however,

(a) the table name appears correctly in the dropdown box
(b) The field names do not appear in the box below
(c) The fields are all visible when I go into the query builder.
(d) No matter what fields I select, the query builder will not make any field names appear in the left hand box of the "Grid and Record Builder".

It seems to me that codecharge connects correctly and identifies the fields but then breaks down when it tries to construct the Grid etc..

The second database, the one with the problems has a much larger table structure than the other one. It only has four rows though. The databases are on different physical servers with different versions of mysql and php.

I would appreciate any pointers.

Thank you and Best wishes
Andrew

As a followup to the above message, I upgraded the ODBC driver on my PC to the latest version of 3.51

I now get the following message:

Builder Common
Loading Fields list: 08501:[MySQL][ODBC 3.51 Driver][mysqld-4.1.14]MySQL server has gone away

I do not understand why this is happening, except that it sounds as though it is a server side problem. Any idea how to fix the issue?

Thanks for your help
Andrew

I have found a way of fixing the problem - BUT I am not sure if it is a good way. I set the Data source (DSN) to reconnect automatically to the database (Advanced >> Enable Auto-reconnect) if disconnected. It appears to have worked.

I am concerned though that this may not be a good way to proceed as a warning message is attached to that particular checkbox. Admittedly, the ODBC driver is used only during the design phase.

I would be interested to know if there is a better way to proceed.

Thank you
Andrew
