Hi,
It costs a couple of bucks but I just used Sothink Webscroller for the same purpose with good results. http://www.sothink.com/product/javascriptwebscroller/index.htm
It goes one step further and offers larger versions of the thumbnails on rollover and also optional image titles, descriptions and links. I created a dynamic version that read this information from the database and managed the database table through CCS in the back end of a ccs cms system.
