 Internet vs Local MySQL Connection

I've re-read the docs, and searched the forum, but I'm just getting myself even more confused... :(

I have set up a connection to MySQL on my development pc, and this works AOK, with pages displaying data fine in LivePage.

However, when I FTP'd the files to my Internet server and tried them, it couldn't connect to MySQL. I now realise it is the Connection - it's still looking for my dev copy of MySQL on localhost.

Where I'm having problems is figuring out how to (dynamically?) change the MySQL connection settings, so that at the Internet server, it connects to my Internet-accessible MySQL?

Some suggestions for this boofhead would be most appreciated!

STOP right there and read this:

Read Help and Docs, search for server profile.

In the case you describe here I would:
create second Server Profile.
Set the project directory to reflect the subdirectory structure on THAT server.
Set the connection to reflect the situation on THAT server, most likely Localhost (viewed from that server), (try) avoid ODBC connection make a real MySQL connection.
Then Publish through FTP.
CCS caters for secondarey and third, fourth and so on, profiles each for their own target server.
Almost all parameters will follow the settings in that profile.

Now when publishing is finished and you want to continue development, simply switch back to server profile 1 (or whatever you renamed it), and all will be back to normal.
When ready to publish to WEB, switch ...... and so on.

This is a great feature, which could be even better.

Almost never need to manually adjust any of the common files.

Hi Walter

I've 'more or less' been doing what you suggested, but finally realised my error: I thought that I'd need a second Connection object - WRONG! The penny eventually dropped - the one Connection object takes different parameters for each Server.

Working perfectly now, many thanks!

Yep for the design side the Connection remains the same, you just need to replicate it.
