Ok ... this looks good if added to CodeCharge ... by itself is good but
nothing that is not out there already.

Assuming you can merge the products or at least integrate (assuming you will
have to pay for it) I notice that the html code is full of <div>'s ...
which if I remember correctly we where told that Yes S. was not going to
support ... the actual line was ... use Dreamweaver ...

I would love for CodeCharge to move the layout from Tables to <div>'s ....
is that where we are going?

Hi Jan,

I'd appreciate any pointers to anything else out there that automates Web design. Previously we had to direct other customers asking for help with creating Website design to hire a Web designer or find some predefined templates online.

This is not black and white :-)
1. CodeCharge Studio doesn't create layouts, therefore there is nothing to move. For example when you create a new page then you have an empty page canvas where you can add a <table> or <div> to start creating your layout. Some of our customers also copy external Web design into their page and then start adding CCS forms.
Currently CCS forms are based on the <table> tags and this is the right method, posisbly except the HTML around a form (form header and footer).

2. Tables are almost always the most proper way to create tabular formats like grids, and probably record forms as well (I'm not an expert on this).
While <div>'s are the most proper for controling page layout, which you can already use in CCS.

3. I think it's not easy to use only <div>'s for very nice looking form headers, for example with rounded corners. For example I noticed that Artisteer creates couple tables for blocks (which are similar to CCS forms). Although possibly this depends on block configuration. Therefore integration with Artisteer will not remove the use of <table>'s and the number of <table> tags may stay the same.

4. Using only <div>'s seems to be a utopian goal. I hear so many people talking about this but when I ask them to name any professional portal system that uses only <div>'s then they are unable to provide one. Please simply try to find any company on the Internet with a portal that uses only div's.
http://news.google.com/ uses tables.
http://finance.yahoo.com/ uses tables.
http://www.amazon.com/ uses tables.
http://www.oracle.com/index.html uses tables.

Only http://www.yahoo.com/ uses only one table, but their style definition is so huge that I'm not sure how many people can decipher it and actually use it on their Website. And their blocks/forms are simply square, without rounded corners which would require tables...

Therefore I think <div>'s can be used to some extent with simple and pre-defined page layouts but there is no way to use only <div's> with predictable results for such broad and extensive applications as our customers create with CodeCharge Studio.

What Artisteer may add to CodeCharge Studio are a few things:
a) Page layout, which CCS currently doesn't generate at all.
b) Graphics generation, especially the background and header with photo objects, but also such details as rounded corners for the page canvas, blocks/forms, and buttons.
c) Overall professional looking Website design that you control (rather than trying to find an existing template that matches your needs).

Please also keep in mind that Artisteer was created for people using Wordpress, Joomla, various CMS's, etc. and generally for creating Web designs for use with PHP, Visual Studio, portals, and tons of other Web applications and development systems.
CCS is just a small blip on their radar and we're the ones who have to try to extract some value from Artisteer for ourselves, rather than assuming that Artisteer should be a part of our product or do something for us. I'll be happy if we get only light level of integration, which should be sufficient anyway.
And currently our customers already manually use external Web designs within CodeCharge Studio, which is the same method as I used in applying Artisteer design into my CCS application. I'll post some instructions on this later.

Peter ... my first impression was good but nothing new ... the more I play
with it, the more I see the wisdom on what they are doing.

Question, do you have any idea on the Price target for the product? I know
is early but just curious.

Yeah, on the surface it may feel like a Website Wizard that many community Websites, blogs and hosting companies now offer. While the value is in the HTML+CSS output (or Wordpress, etc.) that can be used in our own applications.

Same here. Their Website (News) shows a basic free version to be included in Extensions for Windows ($50) and this is the version I used (generating only HTML+CSS). I'd expect another version (professional?) for $100-$200, with features like creating Wordpress Themes, Joomla, etc., and including some CCS-specific output.
