What just happened with the CMS Project people was doing?

One of our customer need some specification for a Forum Portal.

we were thinking to start a CMS but just ASP (for now)

i really like the idea seeing on the web full application developed using CCS
(Like the Ticket system and others)

anyway we are doing some checkout based on CCS to check
the way to go with the CMS and the best approach.
CodeCharge is a amazing tool just need better Manual (we will see ...............)

Name of the CMS is ready (i will try to keep update so we could see how fast could go
at the moment we start the project)

Step by Step (Walking then run)

hi Oper,

It sort of fizzled out.

I got along way with it and even built a couple of sites with it.

For me the question came when I started to play with CSS. Then table-less layouts got under my skin.

The question I asked my self was do I just use CCS for applications and something else for web sites?

I tried lots of CMS tools - (I really like SilverStripe)

But then I thought hang on a minute! My web sites are apps, they are fed by a database and pass data around.

Now my dilemma is how to make the CSS element of CCS more manageable. I’m gona play around with Style Master try and make few master pages/templates.

What made me think about doing this again is seeing SharePoint working.

Now there's a CMS you don't want to give your clients. Frightening is the only word to describe it.

Anyway, I can send you what I did with the CMS if it's any help, (might show how not to do it:-D) send me a PM with your details.

T;-)

Hi,

I just sent an email to Walter letting him know that the server contract expired while I was away on vacation that hosted the forum. I am happy to move the forum onto one of my main servers if an interest still exists.

We are moving ahead with the cms model and are currently working on a bolt on php/mysql shopping cart module. My suggestion is that rather than have endless discussions on the best model to base it on, why don't I just make our model available and then we can use that as a starting point for improvement. It is often easier to change something that isn't perfect than it is to define it perfectly in the first place.

ok will be great we could share info.

i have to doit in ASP, at the end the CMS will be free even if the project right now is payed by one of our client.

will be really great to disccus what you guys are doing in PHP and what we doing in ASP.

so far we got some feedback on the way to go and our priority will be as follow:

* CMS Basic Maintenance APP
* Forum
* Plugins
---------- Contact Manager, Address, Phone,etc, (Smal CRM)
---------- Skins / Templates (to the end)
---------- Photo Gallery
---------- Event manager
* News
* Custom Pages
* Blogs

* More will be added to end but like i said first walk(start) and then run

we really heading on the forum first becasue that what the client need for his intranet first.

we really focusing with the Custom Pages and Plugins so could be easy
to modify and add pluging for any CCS user.

The Skin/Template i'm on the same boat as walter but i am leaving this for the end but i will
try to use <DIV> for the Skins (not Priority at first)

we are going to start the project with the database design and the basics
in 11 of the next Month 11-08-2008.

also at the end people could see how fast and easy is to create app
using codecharge studio, i will try to be updating the site.

the name of the CMS is 7bz www.7bz.com
the site will be www.7bz.com and the site will be the CMS since
everything on the site will be done with the CMS.

i will keep update of the project i will be around of your forum since
we don't have forum yes and the forum that will be used is going to be
7bz forum when done! (basic forum)

walter for you, since you are really active on CCS forum dont let the PHP project die.

also pete have a point plaing to much sometime let the project go so far with ou seeing anything and people get bored.

PS: if you need a place for the forum let me know we have few server
that we have plenty of GB transfer for month locate on really good datacenter

Hi,

We are on our last day of vacation today so I will re-setup the forum at http://www.codechargecms.com/forum/ on one of my other servers before the end of week and report back to this forum that it is active. I will also post a link to our existing 'bare bones' starter template ccs file and we can decide if it is worth pursuing or if someone else has one that we should adopt.

At this point, I think that we should just move forward and tweak everything along the way, let's get some momentum going.

Cheers,
Pete

Walter

oh 8-)

at the begining i will try to avoid anything but CCS,
the only thing outside CCS will be:

* The Menu Tree Library that is free. (and i think Yes may add these)
* Not sure yet abou fckeditor or YUI Editor (Still Thinking about) but fckeditor has my personal
vote so far.

i would like to keep around CCS so could be easy to add any pluging for CCS user.

I have a project you boys can have. It was called QuickSite and had a crap load of modules. All CCS, PHP and MySQL. If you want to claim it as your own and support it I'll spend the hours or so to pack it in a zip with the SQL DB creation script. It's all in CCS 3.2 though.

Just be nice and give me a mention in the about page!!! 8-)

Don't hurry... do it at leisure, you just triggered my curiousity.

I'll try to get it to you today Walter. It was a project I started to do quick websites for customers. A bunch of modules you can turn on or off in the DB. I went a different direction but QuickSite is still a sound project. I just don't have time to maintain it.

Well, we had build WebCharge (non CCS) but found an opensource alternative that uses the same approach we did, but had a large suporter base and thus larger development effort.
We adopted that for small to medium size CMS solutions.
My main interest in yours is to see your approach, the status and 'maybe' give it the time you don't have.
In between the lines I read you regret that..........

Oh well we'll see.

Walter

QuickSite is entirely DB generated... It's intent was to make a site that a customer could edit the content without being a web genius... like we get customers like that.

It's got a bunch of modules and a wierd system to deal with them, but the right person could make it a nice little CCS starter project. Like I said... you wanna deal with it... I can live with you having the code. :-D

There are a few modules that aren't done, but I'm sure you can handle that.
