Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what information gets stored on the .ccs file of each codecharge project.

I am currently working on the same project at two different locations, so each time i copy the project over I have to respecify the publish paths, and connections. If the ccs file contains only the main settings then i would be able to copy all files but the ccs file to update the project.

Any Ideas?

You can view the .css file using a lister (like in Windows Commander, press Lister )
When you do that you will see that the Server Profiles are in there as well.
Server Profiles contain the Connections as well as publishing settings.

Server Profile Connections will therefor be copied with the project if you copy the
.ccs, .ccp .html as well as the *_events.(php/asp/etc)

If target machine has equal or similar odbc, directory and other settings the copy should work.

Another question is:
Does anybody know how to extract odbc setting from say a XP system in such a way that they can be imported on another machine, or the same machine after a restore?

What's aggravating is this file doesn't propagate when using CCS's CVS.
I think there should be a setting somewhere to allow/disallow that.

For ODBC, on Winderz it's kept in the registry, unless you're using file
DSN's.

DD,
any tool to extract those ODBC settings?
To either import from a backup to a restored or newly installed Winderz system?
That you know of?

Doesn't propagate, meaning?
It does not check in/check out when CVS is used?

G*gled " extract export odbc setting XP"
and found answer to my export question.
You are right about the registry, found this:
Quote :
Open registry editor (regedit.exe or regedt32.exe) and browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI
Highlight ODBC.INI in the left hand side and choose file - > export
Make sure you have Branch selected and save the file somewhere. Remember the name.
Close registry editor
Open the file that got exported in notepad
Also some tool to do export/import.

Thanks fo re-triggering my brain.

Correct. Have to rebuild everything such as connections, publishing,
etc. I think the logic Yes! had was each person's workstation could
have different settings. I think this should be controlled by the user.

Now you could certainly use an external CVS app such as Tortoise to do
the updates, but that's not all-encompassing within CCS. Just one more
thing that the developer needs to just "know".

I speak from experience in bringing in many developers and getting them
going.

Having had a closer look at project ,ccs and pages .ccp, as well as help files on Server Profiles, I would deduct the following:
.CCS holds all the connection and publishing settings per Server Profile.
(allbeit some setting are not separated per profile)
.CCP holds all page info.
There is no link between .CCS and the pages it encompasses, meaning if a project has like 10 pages, and we add another 5 pages manualy to the same directory (.ccp. .html + event code) upon opening of the project it will show the 5 new pages in the Project explorer.

Knowing this, I would suggest:
Withing the project create as many server profiles as there are workstations.
Name each Server profile by it's workstation or the user.
Set each Profile as to the respective settings.
Then check it in.
Have each workstation/user retreive it through the normal CVS routine for updated files.
Upon opening the project choose the correct Server Profile.

If any setting in .CCP needs to be changed, check out, change and check in.

Would this work datadoit?
Or am I to unexperienced at CCS/CVS to even grasp the problem.

Walter

Sounds plausible. In our environment though all workstations share the
exact same configurations (WAMP locally, test and production servers all
the same). Hence, if CCS CVS would just update the .ccs file at all
workstations, there would be no issue. That's why I think a simple
checkbox in the CVS configuration for 'Update Project Settings' or
something would suffice.

This also applies to custom styles. Right now we have to manually copy
the files to the appropriate directories on the workstations. CVS
doesn't handle that either.
