I'll attend, wearing a red nose and make-up, fluffy dutch clogs, folding animals into balloons.
Not on company nickles though, I'll start walking as soon as I know the date.

Why not have it here where there can be a conference where the babes are?
In addition, the developers could come here easily but they probably could not get visas to visit L.V.

well, I'd love to visit St Petersburg...but a ticket to Vegas would be a lot more affordable for me!
of course, we could have it in Chicago and I could drive over!!
question: are we just chatting this up or is this a possibility?

I remember yeas ago, just before Studio was going to be released there was a developers convention in Silicon Valley back when Yes was located there. I attended because I still lived in Marin County. There were a number of users there so it was nice to compare notes, as well as talking to the principles of YesSoftware. They were demonstrating Studio Beta and handing out CDs of a priceless version. The differences between CC and CCS were pretty dramatic. But for simple Master Slave grids/records CC was the easiest system ever, with almost no learning curve.
It is not that expensive to fly here, after mid-September through May. It is worth the visit, it is not like any city/Culture first time visitors have ever seen before. Culture is a capitalized word here for reasons that become obvious after arriving.
The comments about the "babes" being in Vegas also is a clear misunderstanding of what the term means. After comparing the difference, that mistake is never made again;>)

I'd personally love to visit St. Petersburg. I'd just like to keep it
as cheap as possible for Yes so they'll at least entertain the idea.

I was just joking about having it here, but I can wish can't I? It is more involved to travel outside the US for most people compared to LV even if the babes are not in the same league;>) But you are all welcome to come for a pleasure visit, I'll even act as tour guide since there are few other foreigners who know the city and its history as well as I do.
It would be interesting to have the coders invited, which would mean somewhere outside the US so they can get visas. As i understand it, the coders are in Ukraine.
If it has to be in such an artificial unappealing city, make it in October so I will be in California anyway for a month renewing my passport. This one is worn out and has had 2 extention sections added to fit all the visas and passport control stamps that have filled it in the last 9 years.

So is this idea dead and stinkin'?
Do not user conferences typically equate to more sales for the host
company(ies)?
In addition, folks like AxisOS could coincide some CCS training while
there. CC Tools could sell a license or two, and/or train.
Shall we create some sort of online RSVP (in CCS of course) to get a
real demand?
The SEMA show is also coming up early Nov. in Vegas. I recommend we
have it then! :)

I like the idea but not the place..... Have you seen the draconian measures at the us border. They could take my laptop without reason and never return it ....again without needing a reason. So I would love a user conference but maybe we could do it here in the Netherlands. As long as your not a wanted war criminal....no problems over here

Netherlands sounds good.
But at the moment I'm missing an idea how to count the applicants per location ...

Well, it is getting closer;>) In another month it will be set for Riga and then by December it will be set for down the street here in St Petersburg! Amsterdam would be good though, it is only 2 hours away from here.

If you are in California for a month in October, Let me know if you will be in the Los Angeles area.
Maybe we can get together for a beer or something.
I can show you around a little.
Let me know

Thanks for the offer
I was planning on going back in October while processing a new type of visa since my current 12 month visa expires at the end of September. But our company lawyer is working an angle that might eliminate that need. I do want to go back, my daughter lives in Huntington Beach and has had a new baby since I was back, and I want to ship over a car and 600lbs of electronic test gear that I packed up to ship last year when i was back in the States.
The beer sounds good, one thing I have learned being here, other than how to deal with the women[yeah!!], has been for the first time drinking and eventually even liking beer. I've still never tried coffee but that is another story...I was always a wine, Scotch, Tequila, sort of guy.
I still think Amsterdam would be a great 2nd place for the users convention. First of course is St Petersburg, naturally;>) well, if this proposal gets off the ground we could have two, one in LV connected via Skype Video to our European event at the same time....+9 hours. It could be a contest to see which was more fun.....Flights within Europe are CHEAP, and it is only 2 hours away. In some ways St Petersburg and Amsterdam are similar, they both were designed around canals, they both have awesome women and neither cares what anyone else does. But I think SPb has an edge with the women and cultural aspects.

I was concerned with the laptop being a terrorist suspect as well but my laptop and its total backup hard disk hidden in my toiletries passed through security unmolested 2 days ago. I came back the US unexpectedly, unexpected as of 3 days before, and was surprised my new fancy bionic hip did not even get noticed by any metal detectors on the multi-leg flight. I had my hip joint's passport(yes, a metal joint needs a passport along with the person that contains it)
So my original objection to having the user get together in California or LV is hereby suspended until mid October or whenever my new work authorization is completed in Moscow...new rules as of last Friday require proving I do not have any of dozens of diseases, both mundane an exotic including leprosy.
After which time as the paperwork in done, I propose a formal or informal European version of the conference. Maybe attend them on two continents, that would surely be a record.
The weather is better here(California), but the women and beer are better in Amsterdam or St Petersburg so both continents would be worthy of hosting the events.

Ok, we have to take a vote for the location of the European version of the conference; 4 good candidates in Amsterdam, St Pete., Stockholm and Budapest. I like them all and they are within a reasonable distance from where I will be normally. Maybe "all of the above" on a yearly rotating basis.
Which has the cheapest decent hotel and beer prices? I think Amsterdam or Budapest would be my choices(if it can't be in SPb).
The US side would probably settle on Las Vegas or SF Bay Area, of those two, it is far cheaper to visit L.V. but the food is much better on average in SF, and food trumps cheap hotels anytime.

There'll be no user conference in Amsterdam, St. Pete, wherever if Yes
isn't even willing to get in their cars and drive five miles down the road!
I'd settle for a Holiday Inn Express conference room with croûtons and
Jim Jones Juice just to get this idea going.
